This is the one that got him shot. Until this time, he had supported the war in Vietnam and resisted, it is said adamantly, conflating the civil rights movement with the anti-war movement. FBI documents reveal that it was a focus for the Bureau to keep them separate for fear of a symbiotic mix. When MLK began to realize that the two issues were inextricably intertwined, and began to talk about it, he signed his death warrant.
He was assassinated a year to the day after this speech, just in case we didn’t get it.
The speech is easily his best, and worth the time.
